Welcome to the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) website for the redevelopment of the Old Post Office building located in the heart of the Federal Triangle on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. The Old Post Office offers tremendous potential with its historic character, unique architecture, and urban position.
In March 2011, GSA issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the redevelopment of the Old Post Office building, land, and Pavilion Annex. Directed by the Old Post Office Building Redevelopment Act of 2008, GSA selected a private sector preferred selected developer, the Trump Organization, and commenced with various planning and regulatory activities, including negotiating the terms of a long-term ground lease and complying with the requirements of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). This website is designed to inform the public about the proposed redevelopment effort of the Old Post Office, including specific information about the building’s history, design and planning efforts, the NEPA process, historic preservation, the Section 106 Consultation process, and associated documentation.
Goals for the Old Post Office Redevelopment

Redevelopment Partnership
This redevelopment offers a unique opportunity for the private sector to collaborate with the federal government in transforming an underutilized federally owned property into a valuable asset for private sector use. Through the Old Post Office Building Redevelopment Act of 2008, PL 110-359, H.R. 5001, GSA was directed to proceed with the redevelopment of the Old Post Office building. GSA is moving forward with a redevelopment of the building using Section 111 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA), which provides GSA with the authority to enter into leases for assets listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
In February 2012, GSA selected a preferred selected developer, the Trump Organization, to convert the Old Post Office into a high-end luxury hotel and conference center. The Trump International Hotel, The Old Post Office, Washington, DC is scheduled to open in 2016.
